Volunteer at Sumak Kawsay In Situ
Sumak Kawsay Volunteer Programs
- Over almost a decade, we've discovered a plethora of wildlife in the reserve! Birds lead in diversity with 306 species, followed by 66 types of amphibians. We've also found 52 reptile species, with snakes being the more diverse group, comprising 36 species. Mammals come next with 32 species, including 10 different species of Carnivora. The rich variety of plants is equally impressive - even a small area of 0.50 hectares hosts a whopping 145 plant species!
- Thanks to these discoveries, we've pinpointed 20 endangered species according to the IUCN. They include 9 species in near threatened status, 6 in vulnerable status, 3 in danger, and 2 critically endangered. These species are like nature's alarm bells, alerting us to changes in our environment and helping us keep an eye on the health of our ecosystems.
- We consistently monitor the ecosystems utilizing a diverse array of tools and methodologies. From trap cameras capturing majestic creatures like pumas and jaguars, to citizen science apps like iNaturalist documenting everything from snakes to frogs, we're on it! Plus, we're teaming up with research institutions to dive even deeper into our studies. And guess what? You can join us! Whether you're into birds, bugs, or just love being in nature, our volunteer program welcomes you.
- Enjoy discounts on longer stays, knowing that your contribution supports our scientific research and conservation efforts.
- Come be a part of Sumak Kawsay In Situ reserve's exciting journey into discovery!
